Networking and mastermind groups, Get ready folks because this is my biggest soap box … June 27, 2007

I see a lot of threads in forums asking about coaching, mentoring etc. People asking to hook up with a seasoned marketer, offering what ever skills they have as collateral.

I know from experience that such mergers can catapult people into super stardom, I also know that organizing, and attending local mastermind groups can have the same effect.

I want to help you set up your own local mastermind groups…

Now for logistic reasons this will only apply to UK members, though I have a lot of US contacts and maybe able to help you get in touch with similar groups in the US. (Focus4thefuture has 2 main network groups in the US, in Seattle and Dallas)

My first concern is to help UK marketers, to that end I will make this offer. I can jump in my car and pretty much be anywhere in the UK to come speak to groups you either already attend, or to new groups you want to create.

If you have a room where we can meet and some interested people willing to attend, I will come to you free of charge (thought I better put that in before someone assumed I wanted paying) and do a presentation, and sit down with you and answer questions.

If you want to start such groups, and have no clue how to get one started, then contact me either by PM or even by phone. My number is on every website I own so I’m easy to get in touch with.

Mastermind groups can get you over your obstacles, give you help and confidence and set you on your way. Encourage each other, help each other promote products, and generally discuss tactics and strategy. People sometimes choke just at the point of success they procrastinate or just drop things because of lack of confidence.

Especially common is to get stopped at the precise step of what you don’t know how to do in detail, and don’t really want to!

I have several projects which have stalled just short of making money because of certain fears or lack of desire for a certain step. It is very helpful in getting over both of these problems to belong to a group or have a friend with complementary skills, with whom you are partnering. They also provide encouragement to face the fear that is holding you back. You overcome the fear by taking the steps.

A coach is a super resource also. Taking action steps precisely in the areas where you self-sabotage is what coaches are most expert at

Just like sky-diving, just jump, and think about it later. Entrepreneur does not mean don’t take any gambles, or that you will always have a guaranteed income return from every project you ever start. It means take risks, make mistakes and move forward.

I’m not saying don’t think about it just don’t spend all day thinking about it. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, and make sure you learn from every one of them.

A mentor of mine, Paul Myers has a little saying at the end of each of his newsletters 100% of the shots you don’t take never go in

So conversely if only 1% of the shots you take go in, your success rate is better than none at all. And master mind groups encourage you to take the shots.

Beware! most self proclaimed Forum experts are peddling terrible advice!

The biggest problem with online marketing forums is the huge amount of misinformation and total nonsense that gets posted with out ever being corrected, this tends to lead people down the wrong path. Forum Know-how is my attempt to rectify that position.

We have a panel of resident experts who are the moderators and will make sure the information you get here is relevant and more importantly correct.

If there are, call them up and arrange a small meeting, maybe a lunch or a beer after work.
