Robert Puddy One of the knowhow guysYes I know that’s quite a turn around…

But things have changed in the traffic exchange world and the Smiley Plan is now without doubt the smartest quickest way to get TE’s back in the real world.

Getting members to promote for the free credit overrides instead of for penny’s clicking or to earn commissions is the saviour of TE’s and is our only chance to right the wrongs in the last 5 years or so that has seen our little corner of the IM world decline.

We must bring Traffic Exchanges’s back to the original idea that they are for the little guy to promote their affiliate programs to other little guys.

Before I came along and changed the emphasis from good old traffic generation to a commissions led environment TE’s were the perfect way to generate traffic to programs that were designed to create revenue for advertisers.

Changing the thought process from making cash from TE’s to using TE’s to generate affiliate commissions in programs that are more naturally set up to create revenue is the only way to save our little corner of the IM world.

So today I publicly announce I was wrong, and Smiley was right.

As users you should be promoting TE’s only as a means to build down lines and grow your traffic generation pot.

Then use that advertising power to promote other programs like ISPG, rocket responder, Tecommand post (or your own favourite money maker) etc.

As an owner it makes huge sense to cut down on the money you now pay out just to get people to surf.

The money saved from that practice can be used to make credits and member subscriptions cheaper.

We need to stop looking at page views as a sign of a good TE, and start looking at the conversion/signup rate as the indicator of a good TE.

I know people with an advertising budget who are desperately wanting to spend it at TE’s. If only the surfers were more geared towards the advertising aspect instead of the penny clicking aspect.

They would much rather the delivery rate was slower and the signups higher, what you and I want is for our advertising budget to actually make a profit.

Wether you buy credits or earn them surfing and promoting (or both) you want your time and money to bring in reasonable results.

Now I don’t expect to change this over night but we really do need to take a good long hard look at what were doing to ourselves.

And I’m not the only one thinking we were wrong back then to push the affiliate properties of a traffic exchange.

What you and I both need is a good reliable traffic generation solution that creates wealth for everyone involved and the smiley plan is it.

It has to start with us owners lowering or removing commissions and raising credit overrides for members who build down lines.

Join the campaign and put the smiley plan into action.

  1. Thank you Robert for your Honesty in this Report.

Ron and I have NEVER offered Cash for surfing in any of our Traffic
We always believed to surf and LOOK at the Advertisements, so we
    set up our TE’s accordingly.
It’s about time for everyone to go back to the basics.
    I wish everyone a most prosperous 2018

P.S. Vern, I still miss Smiley Traffic.

  2. Sorry Robert….But I Do Thank You for Asking me to be Your Mentor a year ago!
Wasn’t aware I’d be Mentoring all TE Owners!

It’s Simple Science! Making Money as a TE Owner is ALL about YOUR Clientele. If you cater to Surfers that surf for pennies, Your Sales will show that.

If you cater to non-penny clickers, your sales will go up and less money out of your pocket for nothing. You will lose High Clickers, but People that have something to advertise will click more. Your per site view will go down 50%, depending on how many Penny Chasers you have, but Sales will DOUBLE and then some!

TE’s are Not Paid To Clicks, but now they pay More than all the PTC’s that PayPal shut down. Since PayPal has slowed on shutting TE’s and PTC’s down, everybody is back to pushing PayPal’s Angry button again.

Think… TE Owners. Do YOU want Surfers, or Do YOU want Upgrades and Sales?
I’m not into this for Charity.

  3. Most big affiliate programs offer single commission rate, they don’t offer different commission rates on upgrades. Step in the right direction and much-needed one in the Industry.

  4. I passed your link to this post around as I too felt I needed to tell you great and timely post. In parts of the TE Industry, you told sway as to how other owners react.

Now they are talking. That is step one and good Next will be the action they take to back up the talk. For my five sense, I will be watching and changing my advertising budget to support those who are serious enough about TEs to make the necesssary changes.

  5. I am happy to say Robert that I have a bit more respect for you today for being honest and admitting that you were wrong. I takes courage to stand amidst an industry that you had a huge hand in building to say ooopps I was wrong and Smiley was right. 2TU!!!

  6. It is 8 degrees Fahrenheit (-13 Celsius) here today and now I read this.

Apparently hell really has frozen over 🙂

Great post Robert. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Quote from Jon Olson in the NMForum

Crazy to think. After all those head butt sessions….Vern was correct after all!

I was guilty of running after the commissions too. I think it took away from the DNA of these programs, and that’s the ‘looking’ at advertisements. And the more people that looked at your ad, the more money your business generated.

    1. I NEVER said anything of the such….

      Just kidding….

Yeah it’s time to bring them back to what they were made for. And Vern was right all along. The truth is, we tried to combine both worlds…the paid to surf and the advertising industries.

Hindsight….We should have kept them separate.

Not too late to change and get it back to advertising and building those lists 🙂

  8. Yes i removed my affilliate programs in my te’s and mailer
no penny surfing at all just pure advertising
lowered upgrade cost. We will see how it goes!

  9. Hi Robert,

Great post! I have been saying for years now that TE’s needed to get back to what they are supposed to be used for – Advertising – and not be treated like they are PTC sites. I have started to make some changes at my TE’s and there will be more changes coming as well. One change I am going to make is to do away with the different commission levels, and if I give any commissions, it will be just give one amount across the board – even for free members. It is so refreshing to finally hear one of the “Big Guys” say what I have believed was wrong from the start – cash surfing etc. Amen Robert!
