Information Overload leads to lack of focus

I find that when I get into that overload situation (and it happens to everyone) I simply throw everything into a pile. Then mark each project with a score from 1 to 10 of importance.

None of the 9′s get worked on until the 10′s are done, and so on

If it rated 5 or under it gets sidelined until I truly have no other projects in the pipeline, they are used as stocking fillers for those times I am truly on top of thngs.

Large projects can suck you dry of inspiration and when that happens you need to step back and concentrate on basics. This always happens to me directly after a seminar. I have just spent the last 2 weeks putting everything but the most important tasks on the back burner and simply chilling out to recharge the battery’s

Sometimes you just have to reboot your system and clear the hard drive in your brain.

Lets hear your solution for this business killer problem

Poor you Robert, sad to see you also joining the rest of the herd. But, Congrats, you have found a way to get out of the rut.

    A good lesson to all.

I like the Tim Ferriss solution in the 4-hour Work Week. Look at each item and ask ‘If that’s all I get done today, will I be satisfied with the day’s work?”

If the answer is ‘no’ then it goes to the bottom of the pile.

Information overload makes me feel like my “brain is full” and new information just will not stay in there until after my subconscious has processed everything it needs to. It’s so frustrating. My solution is also time out Robert.

IF I can get outside in nature it happens much faster and as I love to garden that is a wonderful solution for me. A day out at the beach, or walking in the bush (forest for those of you not in Australia!) can also be incredibly theraputic.

I find that if I can’t to that kind of thing then it takes a lot longer.

It’s an old solution to ‘overwhelm” or ‘burnout’ – I can remember my Grandmother telling me to keep your hands busy so that your mind can work it’s magic. Wise woman my Grandmother.

The trick is to do things that don’t need your mind to do too much work but keep your body active so that you don’t get bored!

I find that this ‘Information Overload’ is happening more frequently, I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or if there is just so much more information out there! Either way, my garden is looking terrific!

I like your basic method of operation but, it doesn’t go quite far enough. I do the same thing (number the items on my desk from one to ten every morning) then start out with the most important and work my way down. The difference is at the end of the day, what ever is left over at the end of the day is saved for the next day and then repeat the process. Here is the difference. If it doesn’t get past 5 by the third day, I, typically, decide that it wasn’t worth doing in the first place and relegate it to the circular file. Our time is limited on this earth and some things are simply not worth waisting your time on.

I think you were spot on Robert when you said you need to take a step back and concentrate on the basics.

I am still very new to Internet Marketing and must admit to this day I get “Information Overload” from just about everything because, I feel I have so much to do.

It’s a matter of, what will I do first? what works, what doesn’t? Do i listen to this guy or that guy?

I’m sure you’ll agree that everyone just starting out is subject to “Information Overload” more than an experienced person who knows exactly what to do because they know what works and what doesn’t.

But I’m going to give my “To Do” list numbers of importance from now on as that sounds a real simple and straightforward thing to do! Thanks for that little tip!

As for taking a step back and clearing the mind, A bit of deep relaxation gets me thinking more clearly again in no time! Sometimes you most definitely need to step back and chill out!
