Navigating The Lost World of Traffic Exchanges
Every year, thousands of people wrestle with Internet Marketing, only to struggle to find targeted traffic, great leads, and ultimately, paying customers. They spend a fortune on gadgets and tools, only to find they are lagging behind on the information superhighway.
It doesn’t have to be like this. Imagine a world where, instead of desperately trying to engage customers to buy your services, you can simply place your wares on display and sit back with satisfaction as thousands of consumers enquire about your product. Imagine if you had the ability to attract a steady volume of internet traffic, made up of targeted and curious customers. Your revenue would grow, and your internet business would flourish.
You don’t have to imagine anymore. There is a place like this. It’s called The Lost World. And it’s real . . .
The Lost World of Traffic Exchanges
Setting out to find The Lost World without proper training and tools would be a little bit like trying to climb Mount Everest armed with nothing but a cardigan and a thermos of soup. So, the first thing to understand is what to expect when you arrive, and what challenges you will face along the way.
The Lost World is inhabited by a vast collection of “Traffic Exchanges” (TE), also known as “Hit Exchanges”. A TE drives large volumes of traffic to a web page, and millions of page views are served up in this industry, every day. This abundance means that you can obtain a proportion of this traffic at a price that varies between low-cost and free. Sounds good, right? But, how is this possible?

Givers Gain –Perfect Reciprocity
A TE works on a reciprocal system. Each member of the exchange agrees to view web pages of the other users. In return, they have their own page shown to a variety of other members. The more pages a user is willing to view, the more visits they receive in return.
Where a TE has the advantage over social networking is that, unlike Facebook-style websites, promotion of business and marketing-related web pages is expected. Reciprocation is guaranteed. Every member of every TE has an interest in online business and they are ready and willing to see what everyone else has to offer.
Most TE users are keenly interested in home businesses. If they don’t already have their own established home business, they’re desperate to create one. This creates a group consisting of thousands, who are eager to view your web pages, with an interest in obtaining tools and information that will help them to establish and grow their business.
Traffic Exchange Evolution
The industry of exchange grew out of a time when people first began arriving on the Internet in large volumes. The concept of exchanging “views” was not limited to web pages and included items such as banners, small ads, emails, start pages and exit pages. Exchanges of this kind still exist today, but they are largely dominated by the TE formula.
The effectiveness of these exchanges was often boosted by combining the concept with the stylings of Multi-Level-Marketing. This viral effect generated a huge amount of interest in a short time, along with incredible volumes of traffic. Often, the benefits were only experienced by a few early adopters, while the vast majority of members eventually left, disillusioned.
These problems were exacerbated by ‘cheaters’ who developed software that manipulated the programs in their favour, reducing the benefits for the loyal users who persisted. The TE industry is still burdened by the poor reputation that exchanges acquired at this time. But, for many people, these failings spurred them on to develop the model into something stable:
• The pyramid system faded out, replaced by a simple tiered approach that used ratios to ensure sound economics.
• Cheat protection became mandatory to reduce the risk of manipulation.
• As traffic quality improved, TE owners became better placed to sell traffic and upgraded memberships.
• Trappings of Internet Marketing, such as one-time-offers and elaborate product launches, were adopted by many TE owners, resulting in increased credibility for the industry.
• Experienced Internet Marketers recognised the potential and developed effective strategies.
All of this means that there has never been a better time to add TEs to your marketing mix.
Heroes and Villains
The TE industry, unjustifiably, suffers from a lot of bad press. Here’s why:
• The Traffic Exchange industry’s main selling point is free traffic. This primarily appeals to internet users who have started building a business online, but have little or no money to invest
• A home business owner or who doesn’t have money to invest is either very new to the game, or isn’t very good at it. If an inexperienced Internet entrepreneur tries to use traffic exchanges, their chances of success are going to be limited.
• When failure occurs, most will point the finger at TEs rather than accept personal responsibility.
Many reach the conclusion of this well-worn path and slink away, never to return. The more passionate people, change direction, and either become a hero, or villain. Villains remain negative, or, even worse, pretend they have been successful with TEs and attempt to sell illegal strategies. Thankfully, there are also TE heroes!
Advocates of TEs who have tried, failed, and then worked on the problem until they succeeded, are the heroes of The Lost World. The result is that it’s possible to make profitable use of TEs without the pain that comes from trekking through the unknown.
Finding Your Way
There’s no such thing as an instant result online. However, if you’re determined to make your business a success, and you’re committed, you CAN be successful. The destination is voluminous traffic, targeted leads and reliable income, but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the journey along the way!
By taking steps to thoroughly understand the route you are to take through the world of TEs, you will be able to plot an accurate and safe course through the pitfalls and issues with which some people still associate them. The savvy Internet Marketer understands that it takes time and energy to build up a successful business, and it is only by understanding the tools you are working with, and how to apply them well, that you can succeed.
This is the first in a series of six articles on The Lost World of Traffic Exchanges. We’ll be developing the themes in this article over future issues, so you can embark on your journey through The Lost World, armed to the hilt.

I am one of those who tried, didn’t do well because it took so much time to get credits — that I said my time is worth more — so I quit the TE and moved to paid traffic. Now, I have a new perspective and armed with this knowledge and your course, I am going to give it a go!
Thanks for the new info! New to me anyway!

Beginning with TEs.
I had all but lost faith in them until you turned
on the light for me and made me realize I
was simply using the wrong.
I could go on here, but I will say a big Thank You!
Hi Robert
Great info on TE can’t wait to read part 2.

Hi Robert,
Traffic exchanges are all but dead, but they do exist in an obscure corner of the web.
I recently started using TE to promote JV events and it works remarkably well. As a means to an end it’s fine and you need compelling headlines and copy to keep the viewer on your site longer than ten seconds.
I grow my list every day with up to 15 new subscribers, partly because of TE’s.
Look forward to the other articles.
Cheers,
Andi

Going through your video series offer from the GVO Conference webinar. I was never on a Traffic Exchange before, or have formed any opinions. But, your explanation of them makes me want to learn your information and techniques and give it a go.
Thank you for the offer to watch your video series, I have one more to go and then I will run back through them all again.
For a total newbie, I would sure like your suggestion as to which 2 TEs you would advise me to start with. I don’t have time to surf, so I would be looking to purchase the impressions.
It is great to find new ways to target market and my main focus is educating and helping Baby Boomers protect themselves from the coming global financial meltdown with the new global gold currency.
