Will you just waste my time, and talk crap about me March 6, 2007

Thats the question I always ask when I get those emails that ask me to mentor or coach someone. Coaching is a two way street it needs input and commitment from both parties.

For anyone to even consider helping you, coaching you or mentoring you there has to be a real commitment from you, I have to know that if I do this your going to listen to, learn from and act on my advice.

I need to know that your not going to just ignore my teaching, and then tell everyone i didnt deliver and that it was a waste of time or money. Sure not everyone who takes class will get the same result, but my reputation hangs on my students ability to come out the other end with a result of some kind.

As long as I leave you much better off than you were before then I did my job.

I get a lot of requests for coaching, most expect it free, some expect me to do it for them. All of the above just go in the recycle bin, not because I want their money but because they are a risk to my reputation. There is no commitment on their part, no consequences if they dont bother with the course, or just pay it lip service.

I want students that have an emotional and finacial stake in their own education, because thats the best way to get results and keep my reputation intact. Incidently it also keeps me motivated too, if its free both of us will have a tendancy to say “it doesnt matter I can do this next week”

I also dont want someone who just pays with no thought at all to their part in all this, I want someone who I can see will go the extra mile, I want students who make the effort to meet with me and discuss their expectations so we can both make sure each of our expectations can be met.

What do you want?

Do you want a mentor who will just send you stuff through email, or do you want a mentor who has an emotional stake in your success.

Liz Tomey and I want to take an emotional stake in your success on line, Its not free for the reasons I give above, and you will have to get out from behind your computer and come to see us in Dallas on march 15th to 18th.

But if you do that, then you will have two successful people committed to getting you started on your dream. Can you let this pass without forever looking back at an opportunity missed?

I hope not

All you have to do is get to Dallas

And send me an email to say you want Liz and I to have a stake in your success, and that you wont talk crap about us :)

Your success
Robert

Rob,

The live streaming is awesome! Thx so much for this.

Hope you get this later today and let the audio guy know to just turn up the volume some more. Quite a few of my Skype buddies are having difficulties hearing it.

Just listening to the “Hot Seat” session as I write. Some really great stuff Rob. Thanks again.

As a teacher and parent myself, I know how annoying it is to set aside your life for someone and then have them take you for granted! It’s a two-way street, eh?

Keep up the good work.
