You dont need more traffic…less is more May 3, 2009

Posted by Robert Puddy in : Business , trackback

Until you get over the “I need more traffic” and get into the I need to optimise my system you will never get this.

Sending traffic to a site that doesn’t convert is the real problem, doesn’t matter how much traffic you send to a badly converting site it will never be enough.

Most people put up a site with no idea how to monetise it properly and then spend the next 50 years complaining they don’t have enough traffic.

Paying for traffic to do test runs is not that expensive, and in the long run much more cost efficient. If you cant afford to spend $100 on a test run of traffic to get your metrics then you shouldn’t really be in IM

Most people already have traffic they just don’t use it effectively, that’s the main problem.

Once you have some traffic, you should be spending time and money on perfecting your system not on more traffic, once you have that nailed down spending $1000 on traffic knowing your going to make $3000 isn’t a difficult choice.

Having a clear objective of what your webpage is there to achieve, and a clear systemised process to monetise it is the key to success in sales (online or off)

Running traffic through a site to test your process is as easy as buying the traffic, either through PPC or other form of paid advertising. While you may not make a profit right away, you will be able to test and tweak using that traffic.

Once you hit the optimum conversion then you can just do more of the same. The problem is when someone asks how can I drive more traffic they really mean how can I get more traffic without paying for it.

And the scary thing is, you only have to do this a couple of times to have a traffic base to use on any new site… your lists… they can be used in small test runs to see how your site performs.

I use my time to find ways to squeeze another 1% conversion rate out of my existing traffic, and my credit card to increase the traffic when I achieve that.

Let me ask a question…

If you know that for every $1 you spend on advertising you make $3 in sales, are you going to worry about generating free traffic or are you going to spend more $ and get it instantly?

And here is another problem I see…

Folks want to make profit from the initial sales page or they see it as a failure, I actually don’t mind making a loss on the initial sale to get them into the sales funnel.

Look at Godaddy they spend millions of dollars advertising a service that loses money on the front end, they make a loss on every domain name registered yet they pay for advertising at the super bowl to lose that money.

Why is that?

Its because they know once they have customers in the funnel they can make huge amounts selling them other services.

Traffic generation is only restricted by one thing, your ability to pay, or your credit limit

Its all those “instant success” ads that do the damage. People get the wrong impression of business on the net. They forget they are still dealing with human being - and ‘human being’ rules apply!!

Great stuff Robert. It’s so important to start small and optimise the funnel to convert visitors to cash. Then drive the numbers through.

Thanks, Robert. This really helps me in understanding the sales process.

Right, as long I don’t convert my traffic in cash I don’t spend money. I with my offer in totally saturated market. After five month online, I have an average of 640 visitors and 2000 sites every day, slowly my site is known and for future projects which I develop in the moment is that a start.

Very helpful to know where to prioritize my time and $$$.

Thanks for the great advice. I have found a very interestin form of pay per click. But really I should not call it pay per click because you just pay one low monthly rate for impressions that are very similiar to adwords. The biggest dif is that it does not matter how many clicks you get the rate is the same. With pyrawords you may even go viral without it costing you nothing else.

Mike Filsaime is the king of funneling sales from front-end to residual back-end sales. The concept is both simple and genius! It works really well, yet a lot of people still aren’t implementing even the controversial one-time-offer pages (upsell/downsell). Interesting topic for sure.

Either way it is still just a small piece of the bigger picture. Amazing how many different areas there are to be mastered in the internet marketing industry, no? Great post, Robert!

I’ll be implementing some aspects of this process to my exchange in the near future, good timing.

Hi

Good.
Just traffic is not really the biggest problem but to turn the traffic to orders!!!

I agree. Traffic is important but what good it does if its not producing the results you want.

I would rather pay for something assuming i have the money if i know it works.

Thanks

Great info, its all about the quality of traffic and generating traffic funnels to your site(s) so that you can test conversions until you reach a point where you can ramp it up knowing that ROI will be 2x, 3x or more.

I’m sending this because I like your product. I’d like you to exoplain something to me. Your business is about making relationships, yes? Then why alienate prospective customers by making comments like

“If you cant afford to spend $100 on a test run of traffic to get your metrics then you shouldn’t really be in IM”

Are you helping people or harvesting a crop? I’d like to think that the former was true. The words bullet, shot and foot come to mind.

I tried to send a PM but didn’t find any option

Stu

Am I alienating people? or am i Giving a reality check?

All the things I said in the post I know to be true, so do I just say nothing or do I give you the whole picture even though some may not like what they see.

Here is something else I know…

If this was one on one mentoring, and you had paid me a large sum of money for that mentoring, that is exactly the information and reality check I would be using.

I dont say those things to alienate people (though I know it will upset some) I say them to make people stop and think about what they are doing.

Robert
